Cheam Meal Out

You either get it or you don’t, but Wayne’s sense of humour can be quite something at times and tonight Wayne found his perfect partner in crime when he met Harrison.
I picked Harrison up at his place and drove him back to our home and then after a brief introduction and a cuppa tea we headed out in Wayne’s car to Beijing Gardens for and all you can eat buffet. I think the best introduction to someone is when eating out as it breaks down so many barriers and we all have to eat at some point.
On route we thought it be really funny to do a little detour and see how Harrison got in with the ridiculous speed humps on the Park Road, Cheam. That proved to be a joke all of its very own and set Harrison off laughing, I am not sure if those speed humps are not there just for the amusement of the pub on that road, as patrons watch from he beer garden to see unsuspecting drivers and passengers get thrown from pillar to post as they drive over it, certainly started the night on a funny note.

Beijing-Garden

The food was great as usual and we had the restaurant to ourselves so the sound of laughter filled the room.
Harrison and Wayne laughed most of the night over silly jokes and things that they had done in the past in the way of practical jokes done on others and I also ended up being the butt of many a joke that Wayne had recorded and posted to YouTube.
A great night and boy do I feel stuffed after the all you can eat buffet and many a chuckles.

Commissary

After spending a short time on the RAF base in Lakenheath one thing instantly caught my attention, a large plain looking building with just the words Commissary on it. For those of you who do not know, a commissary is the equivalent to a grocery store on a military base. So I already liked this place based on name alone and it was here where I would go to get some treats to take back home with me. Unlike supermarkets here, isles were just dedicated to a certain product such as cereals, candy and the choices were endless.

Some of these sort of products we here in the UK and can get them in larger Waitrose stores, Harrods food hall and online specialist sweet stores, so this was an opportunity to stock up on those items that over here in the UK we are ripped off with import duties and retailer mark ups.

tootsie roll

Luckily my visit coincided with an American tradition of Halloween and candy, what we know as sweets, where plenty and mainly in large bumper bags. My mother is partial to Hershey chocolate and the variety meant I had to get one of each choice and as Gary said “it’s your mother you should get her the choice”. Wayne had heard in a song about Tootsie Roll and wanted to try them and I wanted cereals and in particular ‘Lucky charms’ something that over here is about £7 a box, but on base it is closer to $1.99 a box.
As much as this was about getting to know my new friend Gary, the trip to the Commissary was defiantly a highlight and an insight to the joys of American eating, all be it most of my purchases were candy and cereals.

Down In The Dumps

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and the person looking back was not you?
I have been getting those feelings day after day and today was the breaking point of it all, seeing that fat unhappy man looking back at me.
Because I did not see the weight fall off last year from the jogging then this year had a knock on effect with the lack of enthusiasm for this year.
This year has to be different, I really do have to work at it, I need to be stricter with myself and start off with recording my intake in the way of a food diary. I must get used to drinking more water, it is something I really do not do and should. I think cutting out sugar in drinks will help towards just how many calories I do take in daily, cut back on snacking with those sweets and treats and just treat myself at the weekend as a reward.
I am kind of glad it came to this stage, because it has not just let me know I need to make changes but also my friends around me can see how important this is to me and on days when I am not feeling on top of the world then they know to give a gentle nudge to pick me up.

The Boy's Christmas

Christmas day started off with a nice creamy latte and a toasted 'New York Deli' onion bagel filled with salmon.

I needed to make sure that the right presents were opened in the right order and big main presents left till last, so I distributed the presents out from under the tree and laid them out in groups, this made unwrapping them still fun and exciting but in a way that meant the lead up to the larger presents did not contain any spoilers.
Right, unwrap time.

Little Bay

If you fancy a meal out with a difference then the ‘Little Bay’ could be your ideal destination.
The restaurant is themed around the opera and so with this is the seating plan in a unique way. As with the opera, the best seats in the house would be that of the seating in Loggia or Grand boxes, this is the case for the restaurant layout.
The best part of the night though is not only the excellent food, service and atmosphere but also the entertainment, as local opera professionals perform whilst you eat.

Tea For Two

We all have our own ways in doing things and we have our own luxuries. For some a mug of tea or coffee is how we like it and for others it is something more traditional. One thing Wayne and I do not own is a tea set and so today Wayne and I decided to buy a full tea set for those times when it would be nice to have friends over for a slice of cake and a cup of tea.

Two in one day

How nice it is to get some mail in your inbox or posted through you letterbox, it is just great for that bit of communication, even better though when it is in person. Today I got two in one day, two visitors that is. I was up early knowing I had guests coming over, whipping the hoover about in places I had missed a few days earlier and then headed of into town for a few cakes.
I bought home a selection of cream cakes and just in time for our first guest.
Not seen Peter in several months and it was nice to see an old face and catch up. My next visitor arrived shortly after, Colin who's been a good friend for a few years now, one of those people you meet and instantly click with.
Oh well that is about it for today. I wonder what tomorrow brings for me?
